Torah Touchdown at Super Bowl

(IsraelNN.com) The Sderot Hesder Yeshiva has come up with a unique way to enjoy Super Bowl halftime. It is promoting a DVD so that football fans can see the blend of Torah study, fighting terror in Gaza and suffering rocket attacks.

The DVD idea was kicked off by Indiana native Josh Hasten, who handles public relations for the yeshiva and also is a football enthusiast. High school graduates enter "hesder" yeshiva to combine Torah study of approximately three years with an additional 18 months of service in the IDF, often in combat and tank units.

World's First Rocket-Proof Torah Study Hall Dedicated in Sderot

(IsraelNN.com) The world's first Kassam-proof Beit Midrash (Torah study hall) was dedicated on Thursday, in the presence of dozens of rabbis, students, parents and guests of the Hesder Yeshiva in Sderot.
 
A hesder yeshiva is an Israeli program which combines advanced Talmudic studies with military service in the Israel Defense Forces.

First 'Kassam-proof' yeshiva to be dedicated in Sderot

After years of enduring Kassam attacks from Gaza, Sderot's hesder yeshiva plans to consecrate on Thursday a specially-built, rocket-proof beit midrash, or study hall, the first of its kind ever erected in Israel.
 
The five-story building was constructed using tons of reinforced concrete, along with blast-proof windows and other specially-designed structural components, yeshiva spokesman Josh Hasten told The Jerusalem Post.

New "rocket proof" Beit Midrash

Rosh Chodesh Elul 5768
On Rosh Chodesh Elul, the student/soldiers of the Hesder in Sderot moved into their new magnificent "rocket proof" Beit Midrash. The building, which is one of the tallest buildings in Sderot, is stunning. Watch the video below, made by one of the Hesder students showing this exciting event. There will be a formal dedication ceremony in the new Beit Midrash G-d willing after the chagim, with specific details to follow. With the completion of the New Beit Midrash, we now turn our attention to finishing the "rocket proof" dorm units currently under construction. Numerous dedication opportunities on the dorm buildings and on individual apartment units remain available.
