Yeshiva Now Army Base, Shabbat - "Stuff of Legends"
View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

We are about to start the new "Zman" or semester after a very intense summer. In recent weeks we have been blessed by constant, daily "Solidarity" visits, including a legendary Shabbat with 50 American guests from the OU, 600 IDF Special Forces and hundreds of Yeshiva students. Words cannot describe the spiritual high and spirit we experienced, but if you go to our website  at www.sderot.org/english , you will see articles by three Rabbis who did a better job describing it than we could ever do. Please contact us at info@sderot.org if you too would like to arrange a visit, Shabbat or mission.

Why has this summer been so special? Because we were all sucked into the enthusiastic whirlwind of activities our Yeshiva has been carrying out:
  • Serving as the home base of the Gefen Special Forces Battalion, hosting 600 soldiers who sleep and eat on campus – mostly at our expense.
  • 150 of our own boys out in active IDF service
  • Central depot for receiving & distributing toiletries, snacks and supplies to soldiers throughout the area – delivered via our network of students in and around the Gaza Strip.
  • Our Armored Senior Citizen’s Kollel keeps the elderly in a bomb-proof environment, crucial in view of the difficulty of running to a protected room – and they get lunch in addition to Torah.
  • Children’s programs and day camp held in our armored facilities
  • Our student run the Sderot Emergency Command Center and serve in first response teams.
  • We visit the elderly and others – shopping and running errands for them.
  • Weddings & Simchas cancelled at non-protected halls are held in our bomb-proof dining room.

All this and more is due to your continued support in helping us build a bomb-proof campus. Due to this – while other Yeshivot, Sapir College, many Sderot municipal workers and many others stay home to be close to their protected room, our bomb proof facilities allow our students to stay on – studying Torah in shifts 24/7, dancing in the streets with the residents in the miraculous aftermath of every attempted attack and doing all those wonderful things listed above.

We, too, believe that Torah study protects and defends – that’s the Yeshiva’s motto on our boys' T-shirts. The Gemara makes it clear that this is mainly for those who exhibit self-sacrifice and put themselves in harm’s way for the sake of others. That is why we are here and that’s why we stay here under fire – for our Torah and our presence to defend and support the community at large!

It is so apparent that our strength lies in our unity and care for our fellow Jew. Your continued support at this time, means more than ever to us!

Please see our special emergency dedication opportunities  and/or the many ways to give to Sderot.
